Activities
The objectives and activities of the EC can be found on the web at: www.angelfire.com/pa/livin/ec.html
Immediate activities undertaken by the Chamber include the following:
1. Establishment of a secondary school in Sirkali district of Tamilnadu, India to offer a high quality free education to rural children. Land for the school has been identified. Finance for the fixed assets such as building has been planned to collect partly from members of the chamber and partly from overseas. The estimated cost for the building is US$ 150,000. The working capital to cover the salary to teachers, free boarding and lodging to the poor rural students will be covered by the subscription of the EC members. Upon the spread of the EC nationally, a similar educational unit will be started in each district.
2. Establishment of an Information Centre cum Library in key places. A plot of land has already been donated at the heart of the town Sirkali in Tamilnadu, India solely for this purpose. Computers with email and Internet facilities will be provided.
3. Establishment of a register, one for the unemployed downtrodden people and one for the potential private employers (both local and overseas). Names of source (influential) persons for the private employment will also be maintained in the register. These registers will be maintained initially at the Information Centre. The aim is to promote private sector employment opportunities for the unemployed. The task force for employment is already looking after these tasks.
4. Promotion of rural industrial establishments to both, improve our economy and create employment opportunities. Initially, chamber bricks, coir industries were identified as suitable for our locations. Several such units are planned to be started on a co-operative basis at several locations in our district as community projects. Finance for these projects is planned to be availed from both the Central govt (Component Development Fund) and state govt (TADCO)provided initial investments by the EC. Our EC task force for industrial establishments is currently preparing project proposals.
