335 Tribals declared literate

JEYPORE: As many as 335 tribals of Jeypore block qualified the literacy test held on Wednesday. Official sources said the literacy campaign was taken up by block officials and members of Chetana groups. Among others, evaluation officer Nityananda Pradhan and sub-collector D Pradhan were present.

DHARNA: Activists of Communist Party of India staged a dharna in front of Boipariguda block office, 20 km from here on Thursday demanding basic amenities for tribals. They also demanded proper distribution of PDS items and employment opportunities for the poor in government agencies.

REVIEW MEETING: Koraput Superintendent of Police PS Ranpesai directed police officials for proper utilisation of manpower to maintain law and order in the tribal district in a review meeting at Koraput on Wednesday. He stressed strict action against anti-socials. Discussions on pending cases, property offence, murder and infrastructure facilities were also held.
