Assault on Dalits: Police nab three

BHARATHINAGAR, June 27 (DHNS)

Police have arrested eight persons on charges of assault on three Dalits in Yaladahalli village of Maddur taluk today.

The accused were produced before the JFMC Court and remanded to judicial custody till June 30. The arrested are Rajashekar, Swami, Chikkasiddegowda, Swami, Nagendra, Siddegowda, Bala-murthy and Devegowda all belonging to Yaladahalli village.

Among the accused, Rajashekar allegedly attempted to rape Shiva-lingamma. Her husband Ningaiah and his relative Chikkalingaiah beat him. In return, Rajashekar assaulted all the three.

Dalits from Yaladahalli and Maddur taluk Dalit Sangharsha Samithi workers staged a dharna in front of the local police station demanding arrest of the accused. Later SP A Shivannavar visited the protestors and assured them that the accused will be arrested soon.
