Latest on Manyavar Kashi Ram's Health Date:09/22/2003 Dear All, Jai Bheem! For those who have been concerned about the health of Manyavar Kanshi Ram ji, I had an opportunity last night to say hello to him and I am pleased to let you know that he is improving a lot in a very speedy manner. I was told now he can stand for a short-while and eat food with his own hands. He is also able to recall past events and recognize people etc. So its really a positive development. Also in another development, I am not sure if you know this, Ms. Mayawati has taken over formally as the National President of BSP and releasing Saheb Kanshi Ram ji from his duties so that he could take complete rest. Of course he would be her guiding force but will not take active part as he used to do. While it is really very sad that has become less-mobile it is also a great relieve to realize that he is with us. He should back at his residence located Humanyu Road in 3-4 days.
With best BSP supremo Kanshi Ram suffers cerebral stroke; condition stable
HYDERABAD: BSP supremo Kanshi Ram suffered a cerebral stroke on Monday morning and was admitted to the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
His condition, however, is stable and doctors said that the BSP leader was out of any danger. He is being shifted to Delhi on Monday night.
Kanshi Ram was travelling by train to Hyderabad from West Godavari district where he addressed a series of public meeting on Sunday when he complained of giddiness and collapsed in the train a few hours before reaching the city. He was rushed to NIMS at 8 am.
A team of doctors led by neuro surgeon Dr Subhash Kaur assessed that the BSP chief was affected by "hemiparesis" on the right side of the brain. Within a couple of hours, Kanshi Ram showed signs of improvement and began responding to treatment.
He even spoke, albeit haltingly, to doctors and a few party leaders who called on him in the intensive care unit. NIMS director Dr Kakarla Subba Rao told media that the condition of Kanshi Ram was 'out of danger' but he needed sometime to recover fully.
Later in a press release, Subba Rao said that the CT scan of Kanshi Ram showed "old infracts" and MRI of brain revealed "acute infract in left thalamus and internal capsule" and MR angiogram of brain showed "diffuse athenoscierotic changes".
Uttar Pradesh former chief minister Mayawati, who was participating in an election campaign in Rajasthan, telephoned to the hospital authorities as well as the party leaders to find out the health of Kanshi Ram.
After knowing the hospitalisation of Kanshi Ram, scores of party activists thronged the NIMS and the hospital authorities found it difficult to keep them away from the intensive care unit.
Doctors felt that "sheer tiredness" and "fatigue" could be the reasons for the cerebral stroke. "At this age, he cannot afford hectic work schedules," a doctor said.
