BSP charges police with Dalit atrocities

KANPUR: Bahujan Samaj Party leader Asif Hussain and Rajesh Paswan on Tuesday charged the local police with harassing the poor and also people of the lower caste, particularly Dalits, in Naubasta locality.

The leaders alleged that the station house officer Mohan Verma was extorting money from the poor and threatening to push them back into jail on fake charges. The leaders demanded action against the guilty police inspector.

On this occasion, several Dalit women were present who were allegedly harassed by local police including Nirmala Paswan, a resident of Naubasta, Nenu, daughter of Pappu, resident of Dharmendra Nagar, and Ganga, a resident of the same locality. Paswan said that the local leaders would meet with senior persons of the Bhaujan Samaj Party on October 18.
