Buddha Poornima observed

HUBLI: The 2,545th Buddha Poornima was observed with reverence in Hubli-Dharwad on Monday.

At the Buddha Vihara in Ganeshpeth here, newly elected corporators, K. Barnabas and Prakash Kyarkatti said, a community hall for Buddhists and a gateway would soon be constructed. They would pool their resources for this, they added.

The Buddhist leaders commended the authorities for naming the road `Buddha Vihara Marg'. Former president of SIBA, D.P. Shanmugam, Corporator Meherunnisa Makandar, Sujata A. Devaraj and R.P. Munniswami were also present. The secretary of the Buddhist Association, M.Medangar also spoke.

Buddha Purnima celebrated

BHUBANESWAR: The Mahabodhi Society on Monday celebrated the 2545th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha here.

Superintendent of Orissa State Museum Dr CB Patel presented a replica of Buddha to the Mahabodhi Society which was received by Dr R Chandra Ratna Thero, vikhu in-charge of the society.

Among others, Speaker of Orissa Legislative Assembly Sarat Kar, Congress spokesman Arya Kumar Gyanendra and Rev Yodha, vikhu in-charge of Dhauli Stupa were present.
