Cabinet berth sought for Dalit candidate

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MAY 28. Mr. A. Muthuvel, president of the Pondicherry unit of the Bhim Sena, has called upon the Chief Minister, Mr. P. Shanmugham, to ensure that a representative of the Dalit community was accommodated in the Cabinet.

Distributing copies of resolutions adopted at the committee meeting of the Sena here on Sunday, Mr. Muthuvel said the meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr. P. Moorthy also pointed out that the outcome of elections held in four States and the Union Territory of Pondicherry demonstrated the anti-BJP mood of the voters. This would serve as a good base for the future political development in the country.

Mr. Muthuvel said a resolution taking strong exception to the machinations of leaders such as Mr. P. Kannan to disqualify the Congress nominee, Mr. Neela Gangadaran, elected from Bahoor reserved constituency had come to cause concern to the Dalit community.

The motive apparently was to highlight the deep-seated selfishness and conspiracy on the part of Mr. Kannan. The meeting condemned the interference by Mr. Kannan in Dalit matters. Mr. Gangadaran had dedicated himself fully for the welfare of the downtrodden.
