Dalits accuse police of shielding accused

The Times of India News Service

PANCHKULA: Family members of the dalits of Bherily village who were injured when some armed villagers allegedly opened fire at them, on Wednesday, accused the police of patronising the accused named in the FIR.

Ashok Kumar, a relative of one of the dalit victims, told The Times of India that even though the main accused, Manjeet Singh and Harjinder Singh, were seen roaming about freely in the village on Saturday evening, the policemen deputed in the village did nothing about this.

Ashok added that they had asked the deputy superintendent to visit the village and initiate action against the guilty.
