Families of carnage victims await justice

HT Correspondent
Aligarh, June 21

SIXTY FOUR-year-old Lal Kaur is still waiting for justice. Her family was massacred in a caste conflict. Whenever any political leader visits Jehrana, her dying hopes get a new life. But she remains blissfully unaware of the fact that such visits are only vote gathering exercises.

After Mayawati another Dalit leader Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister for Telecommunication visited Jehrana today. Paswan paid condolence to the deceased and issued directives to the Aligarh district administration for the arrest of the culprits. He also assured the members of the bereaved families that all efforts would be made to rehabilitate them with adequate security.

Surprisingly residents of Jehrana, including Dalits, do not admit that there was a caste issue prevailing behind the massacre. In fact pradhan of the village told the Hindustan Times that the incident occurred due to old personal enmity and there was no community or caste feeling in the village.
