Forward castes accused of abusing Dalits
MYDUKUR: Bharatiya Janata Party Dalit Morcha Mydukur mandal unit vice-president J Srinivasulu, in a statement here today, demanded the arrest of the upper caste people, who allegedly attacked and abused Dalits of Peddacheepadu village in Chapadu mandal in their caste name on April 22.
When the Madigas of the village were conducting a cricket tournament under the aegis of J S R Cricket Tournament, Bogi Reddy, G Venkata Narayana Reddy, Veeranarayana Reddy, Veerbhadra Reddy, Balanarasimha Reddy, Maheswar Reddy and Venkata Reddy of the same village objected to it and attacked the organisers, he alleged.
Later, taking exception to the Madigas complaining to the police over the incident, about 50 upper caste men of the village attacked the houses of the Madigas, damaged furniture and looted cash and jewellery from them, the BJP Dalit Morcha leader alleged.
The upper caste men had warned the Madigas of dire consequences in the presence of Proddatur circle inspector, who had arrived at the Dalit colony of the village for inquiring into the incident. If the authorities failed to nab the culprits soon, a district-wide stir would be launched, he warned~ENS
