Gosangi tribes to get basic facilities soon

A permanent place to live and employment to the Gosangi nomadic tribes will be provided by the Social Welfare Department in consultation with the Bellary District Commissioner and Social Welfare Minister Kagodu Thimmappa, said Bellary Social Welfare Department Officer N C Sridhar here recently.

Mr Sridhar visited the Gosangi community in Hospet recently and saw the tribes living in plastic tents. They have no drinking water facilty or toilets and are are living without basic amenities. Although they belong to the Scheduled Community, they do not have any facilities, said Dr Manappa Mythri and President of All Karnataka Gosangi community Arjun Gosangi.

Dr Mythri, Kannada Professor has collected data on the Gosangi community. In the State Gosangis are living in 10-15 places. There are 91 tents in Hospet alone, according to her. These people require a separate colony to stay. They must be provided with all facilities said Dr Vishwanath Desai. The Gosangi community living in Hospet, are here for the last 30 years near the TB dam check-post and have named that area as Mallari Nagar.
