Governor for protection of tribal rights

Hyderabad, Feb. 6: Governor C Rangarajan on Tuesday gave a patient hearing to NGOs' demand to veto government move on privatisation of forests.

AP Rythu Coolie Sangham secretary Madhu, AP Secretariat for NGOs convenor associated with JFM Satya Srinivas, Samata activist Bhanu and others appealed to the Governor to direct the State government to refrain from attempts to dilute Land Transfer Regulation Act, 1959 (regulation of 1 of 70) and amendment to Sectyion 11 (5) of Mines and Mineral (R & D) Act, 1957.

The Governor promised that he would examine their demand. He also said the tribal rights would be safeguarded as per the letter and spirit of Fifth Schedule.
