HC orders probe into tribal killings

AGARTALA, June 12 (PTI): A division bench of Guwahati HighCourt has ordered a CID inquiry into the killing of sixtribals in an alleged fake encounter with the police in SouthTripura district three years ago. The order was passed by Justice BB Deb yesterday following the hearing of a writ petition by fathers of two of the killed tribal youths who died in the incident in 1998 at Anurampura. Thaneswar Reang and Upendra Reang in their writ filed two months ago alleged that their sons were innocent and the police killed them in a framed encounter. They also demanded compensation of Rs five lakh each and a CBI inquiry into the killing. The State Government had ordered an inquiry headed by SP of South Tripura district into the incident last month following a press report, official sources said.
