Migration of tribals leads to unemployment

KORAPUT: The recent influx of tribal labourers from neighbouring Malkangiri district to Koraput region has created artificial unemployment in both agriculture and industrial sectors of the region.

According to reports, over 2000 tribal labourers from Mathili, Korkunda, Khoiroput, Kudumulugumma blocks of Malkangiri region have migrated to the tribal pockets of Jeypore, Koraput, Damanjodi and Semiliguda.

The jobs here being limited, the locals are the worst-sufferers. About 10,000 agriculture labourers of Jeypore sub-division in Koraput district have become jobless due to lack of irrigation facilities.

The migrants, however, felt that the industrial belt of Koraput had more employment opportunities than Malkangiri.

But the Koraput District Rural Development Agency officials, maintained that there was no unemployment crisis in the region.
