Ministers hold peace meet to unite Dalits

MYSORE: Union Minister V Sreenivas Prasad, District Minister H Vishwanath and leaders of various political parties and fora held a peace meeting to cement the differences between two Dalit factions which resulted in violence recently.

It may be recalled that a Congress leader was stabbed and two others injured in a clash between two groups during the birth anniversary celebrations of Babu Jagjeevanram in the City.

Following the clash, the differences widened between the two groups and a faction had threatened to thwart the celebration of Ambedkar birth anniversary on April 14.

The meeting on Tuesday resolved to celebrate Babu Jagjeevanram and Ambedkar birth anniversary on April 14 to mend differences between the two groups.

All the groups which represented various sections extended their support to the cause. Vishwanath said seminars and conferences would be conducted to highlight the problems faced by the downtrodden communities.

He also said that there was no lax on the part of the Government in dealing with the situation and the law would take its course. All those responsible for the incident would be taken to task, he added.

Prasad stressed the need not to politicise the incident and assured to work towards the unity of Dalit communities.
