BANGALORE, MAY 31. The State Government today issued the much- awaited notification on reservation of the posts of mayors and deputy mayors in the four city corporations and those of presidents and vice-presidents of other urban local bodies, the elections to which were held on May 3.

According to the notification, the post of Mayor of Mysore will go to the Backward Classes ``B'' group, while that of the Deputy Mayor to the General (Women) category.

The following is the reservation in the other three corporations: Hubli-Dharwad: Mayor (General), Deputy Mayor (Backward Classes ``A'' - Women); Belgaum: Mayor (General- Women) and Deputy Mayor (Scheduled Castes) and Gulbarga: Mayor (Scheduled Castes) and Deputy Mayor (Backward Classes ``A'').

The reservation has been made by a Cabinet sub-committee headed by the Minister for Forests, Mr. K.H.Ranganath.

The announcement of the scheme of reservation will pave the way for the formal coming into being of the new local bodies, numbering 148. They will have to elect the respective chiefs and deputy chiefs. The elections will establish which political party or grouping have secured the majority in the councils. The ruling Congress has secured an absolute majority in only 68 of the 148 local bodies. No party has secured a majority in the Mysore City Corporation and the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.
