Notification puts blanket ban on scavenging

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

LUCKNOW: The Employment of Manual Scavengers and Construction of Dry Latrines Act, aimed at banning the carrying of night-soil on heads and passed way back in 1993, has finally seen the light of the day. The State Government on Thursday brought out a notification banning the night soil carriage.

The notification issued on Friday by the State Government, hereby bans carrying of night soil by anyone on head and anyone from encouraging the practise too.

Informing this, secretary SUDA, SR Lakha said that simultaneously to the revolutionary ban on the age-old practise, the State Government was also going ahead with construction of dry and self-sufficient toilets so that the faintest of chances of the revival of the practise are ruled out.
