Preparations on for Ambedkar's birth anniversary

Preparations are on to celebrate the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar and Babu Jagjeevan Ram at 11 am on April 14 at the Kaveri Kalakshetra here.

The function will be inaugurated by District in-charge minister M M Nanaiah. Planning and Institutional finance minister Suma Vasanth will be the chief guest, said deputy commissioner M V Jayanthi in a meet here to discuss the preparations. The meeting also decided to invite legislators, Zilla Panchayat president, deputy president and other members for the programme. Workshops to create awareness about health care and literacy among the women belonging to the Scheduled castes and tribes would also be started, he said. CAMP: A health awareness camp for those belonging to the scheduled castes and tribes will be held at Murnadu village at 8 am on April 14. The camp has been organised by the Murnadu Gram Panchayat.

RALLY: A rally will be held from April 16 to 23 to fill up the vacancies in the army near the railway upper bridge, Airport Road in Madikeri. Selection of candidates from Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts, NCC cadets and children of army men will be held during this time. On April 17, selection will be held for candidates from Shimoga, Chickmagalur, Hassan and Kodagu districts.

TRAINING: A 10-month training in Horticulture has been organised at the horticulture centre of Madapura for children of farmers who own lands. Applicants must have passed their SSLC or equivalent exam. The training will begin from May 1 and applications can be obtained from the senior assistant horticulture director, Madapura by paying a fee of Rs 10. The last date for submitting applications is April 24
