HUBLI: The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Employees Association of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) staged a protest in front of the HDMC office on Wednesday.

They were protesting against the non-fulfillment of their demands and the alleged discrimination of the association members.

The protesters said, despite several reminders, the HDMC was yet to fill up the backlog vacancies for the SC/ST categories. They added, no decision had been taken to provide employment opportunities to children of the deceased (belonging to the category) on compassionate grounds.

They alleged, the authorities had manipulated the departmental examinations to block opportunities for the SC/ST employees.

Addressing the gathering, the association leaders said, the officials had made false allegations against 31 employees and HDMC was working against their interests. Later, the members submitted a memorandum to the HDMC Commissioner.
