SC/ST engineers opposed to gradation list

DH News Service

BANGALORE:The Karnataka SC/ST Engineers Welfare Association today urged the State Government to withdraw the provisional gradation list (reviewed) of engineers as the list was discriminatory towards SC/ST engineers and as guidelines laid by the Supreme Court were not followed. Addressing a press conference here, Association President S B Sampath Kumar said that the Government is planning to give promotions for engineers belonging to general category by preparing the provisional list, which is not based on directions issued by the Supreme Court in the Sabharwal case, which stated that the total population of a particular backward class should be taken into account for its representation in the State's services. He warned that if the Government goes ahead with the promotions, the Association will be left with no choice but to challenge the same before the Court.
