THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The alleged sexual harassment of a tribal boy resulting in his death at Chadayamangalam in Kollam came up before the Kerala Assembly on Monday.

Finance Minister K Sankaranarayanan told the House that a third standard tribal student, Rajiv, who was an inmate of Dr Ambedkar Memorial Hostel at Vettuvazhi, died on June 29, a day after he was admitted to the government children's hospital here following infection in chest and brain. He was earlier admitted to a private hospital following a fit.

The postmortem examination revealed that the boy was subjected to sexual assault 24 hours before his death. The report of the chemical examination was being awaited.

The sub-divisional magistrate had visited the hostel and submitted his report. The boy was studying in Kuriakode S K V School.

The chadayamangalam police had registered a case.

Crime detachment Dy SP, Kollam, had been asked to investigate the case, he said.
