State BSP to observe Jan 26 as Constitution Day

The Times of India News Service MYSORE: Is January 26, the Republic Day or the Constitution Day? The Karnataka Bahujan Samajawadi Party (BSP) has decided to observe Friday as `Constitution Day' this year.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, state BSP general secretary Mahesh said, BSP activists would take out a procession in the main thoroughfares of the city, besides conducting a public rally at the town hall on Friday, to create awareness about the Constitution.

He claimed that it was a conspiracy by the Manuvadis (fundamentalists) in 1950, to falsely describe the day as `Republic Day,' fearing that the Constitution would get more publicity.

``If the Constitution gets more publicity, people will automatically get exposed to their right,'' he said alleging that the Manuvadi's feared this and made a `conspiracy' to give the day a different angle.
