TD men attack Dalits for voting for Congress

ATMAKUR: Activists of the ruling Telugu Desam Party allegedly attacked Dalits at Muttala village on Tuesday night for voting in favour of the Congress candidate in the mandal parishad territorial constituency (MPTC) elections.

Congress candidate Akkulanna won over his TDP rival Kuraba Narayana with a majority of 327 votes. A procession was taken out to celebrate the victory by the Congress supporters during which Ramachandra, a Dalit, garlanded the victorious Congress candidate.

Enraged over this, TDP activists severely beat up Ramachandra and four others of his caste. The victims implored the attackers not to assault them but to no avail.

The injured have been admitted to hospital. Atmakur sub-inspector Prasada Rao registered a case and investigation is on.
