Tribal culture and arts should be encouraged

MANGALORE: The tribal culture and art should not be relegated to the pages of history, said District incharge Minister B Ramanath Rai here on Saturday.

He was inaugurating the workshop on tribal life held under the joint auspices of Sanesha Prathistan and UNESCO literacy resource centre at Sandesha Prathistana.

Eminent writer Prof Amritha Someshwar urged the people to promote the interest of tribals by imparting good education.

Corporation Commissioner J R Lobo while eleborating on the future plan, said that the city corporation will construct a `cultural village' in 35 acres of land near Pilikula.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza blessed the occasion.

Honorary President of UNESCO Centre Robinson D'Souza also present. Denis D'Sa of Sandesha Prathistana welcomed the gathering.

Director of UNESCO Resource Centre Praveen Fernandes proposed a vote of thanks noted writer N Damodhar Shetty compered the programme.
