Tribal farmers seek quality cotton seeds

RAYAGADA: Sixty-nine cultivators from Rayagada block, most of them belonging to tribal communities, submitted a memorandum containing their demands to the sub-collector recently.

The demands include, immediate purchase of paddy by Government at the minimum support price, action against Civil Supplies officer, Rayagada, for not conducting proper inquiry into purchase of paddy by millers at less than the support price, repair of irrigation infrastructure which are lying defunct and ensure good quality cotton seeds to farmers.

However, a farmers’ leader, G Veerabhadra said as district administration was apathetic to these demands, a delegation would be meeting the Chief Minister shortly.

Copy of the memorandum has also been submitted to collector, MLA and the Chief Minister.
