University ignores SC categorization

Visakhapatnam, Oct. 2: Andhra University SC-B Protection Cell president M Nageswara Rao alleged that the NTR University of Health Sciences has violated the Act No 20 of 2000 and GO No 116 of the Social Welfare in respect of Scheduled Caste categorisation during the admissions to the post graduate courses in medical sciences.

Nageswara Rao told reporters here on Tuesday that NTR health university has denied two SC-B reservation candidates - G Elizabeth and T Pragathi - the seats of their choice during the counselling for PG admissions on September 28 and September 29 at Vijayavada.

Both the candidates had obtained first and second ranks in the entrance test, he said. The seats were given to SC-C candidates in violation of the Act, he pointed out.

"The very purpose of the categorisation was defeated by this exercise,'' Nageswara Rao said. Madiga Porata Hakkula Dandora leader G Chittibabu Madiga and Tiruvur MLA Nallgotta Swamy Das had objected to the violation and approached the NTR varsity vice-chancellor and the counselling was stopped immediately, he said.

Nageswara Rao said all the 12 universities in the State were strictly following the roster of categorisation except the health university. There are 16 seats in the PG courses in the health university with one seat each for category A and D and 6 each for category B and C, he said.
