Walkout over 'failure' to provide aid for tribals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM-led Opposition LDF walked out of the Assembly on Tuesday in protest against Government's failure to extend adequate assistance to tribals in Wayanad area from where poverty deaths have been reported.

Though M V Jayarajan of CPM demanded permission to move an adjournment motion on the issue during zero hour, Speaker Vakkom Purushothaman rejected it and allowed him to raise it as a submission.

Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister M A Kuttappan who replied to the submission said that the Government was doing everything possible to help adivasis in various parts of the State. He said lack of regular employment was the main reason for the plight of adivasis.

However, not satisfied with the Minister's reply, the Opposition members boycotted the proceedings for some time.
