What happened to cabinet decisions, ask tribals

The Times of India News Service

MYSORE: The members of various tribal associations on Monday staged a dharna in front of the deputy commissioner's (DC) office recalling the demands put up at the recent mini-cabinet meeting held at tribal haadis in Heggadevanakote taluk, which have not been addressed.

The protesters raised slogans against the Congress government for failure to respond to the tribals problems and for not initiating action against officials charged with atrocities.

The tribal leaders alleged the officials were still not allowing tribals to live peacefully in the `haadis' and have been unneccesarily imposing reservation in forests. The tribals led by Sreekant of DEED, later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner. In the memorandum, the tribals demanded fulfilment of five long-pending demands. They threatened to intensify agitation.
