Women set liquor vend on fire

ANGRY OVER liquor death of a resident on Holi and shifting of liquor vend at the entrance of the colony, agitating women of the Ambedkar colony at Sector 37 set the make-shift liquor vend on fire this morning.

Ambedkar Vihar Vikas Sudhar Samiti's vice president R.B. Singh said that during the past two months three residents of the colony have died after consuming country liquor.

One of the residents Mahindra died on the Holi day while Teju and Chhannu had died about a month ago. Residents did not celebrated Holi due to his death on Saturda, they said. When residents woke up this morning they found liquor vend at gate of their colony. It made them furious and tried to reason with the owner.

When their requests to shift liquor vend failed, the pradhan Bir Singh and other members went to police station to complain against the owner. Meanwhile, women residents got furious and set the vend afire.

The vend was reduced to ashes along with stock of liquor pouches. A few shops adjacent to vend were also destroyed in fire.

Sector 39 Police Station Officer Alok Kumar said the liquor vend owner had not informed the police about the shifting. Women residents alleged that due to this shop their children were becoming addicts.
