Alleged attacks on Dalits in Mandya district

Free hand to officials to prevent attacks demanded The United Front of Dalit Organisations-Karnataka, today urged the State government to give a free hand to district level officials in Mandya district to enforce law and order in the district and to prevent attackson Dalits.

Addressing a press conference here, leaders of various Dalit organisations alleged that upper-caste people have unleashed a series of attacks on Dalits in Mandya district, following the B Gowdagere incident where a Dalit youth was allegedly attacked by upper-caste people.

They demanded suspension of police inspector who allegedly booked a false case on the Dalit youth Naveen of B Gowdagere village, while urging the government to revoke the suspension of Deputy Superintendent of Police Jawaharlal. The leaders urged the government to provide protection to the family of Mr Naveen and also payment of suitable compensation.

Messrs C Jagadish, Indudhar Honnapur, K Chandrashekhar and M Channaiah who were present, also welcomed governments move to hold an inquiry by a judicial officer into the B Gowdagere incident.
