Ambedkar Research Centre set up

University of Mysore has set up a Dr B R Ambedkar Centre for Research and Extention Centre with a view to initiate as well as further academic studies on the life and works of Dr B R Ambedkar, one of the pillars of modern secular India.

At a press conference here today, Mysore University Vice Chancellor Prof S N Hegde said the Centre will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Consumer Grievances and Public Distribution V Srinivas Prasad on November 12, Sunday. Social Welfare Minister Kagodu Thimmappa and Higher Education Minister Parameshwar will be present on the occasion.

Prof Hegde said the Centre not only facilitates research on Dr Ambedkar`s works, but also promotes scholarly activities in pursuit of social relevance.

He said the extension programmes envisages a reading room, study centre for students and teacherrs to acquaint themselves with literature on the thoughts of Dr B R Ambedkar.

Retired Chief Engineer Dr M M Jayashankar will be the honorary director of the Centre, he said.

Prof Hegde said the Centre also proposes to review the welfare schemes taken up by the Union and State governments, besides striving to establish a caste-less society in India, as envisioned by Dr Ambedkar.

He said the Centre will also provide fellowships for scholarly works involved in studies based on the life and works of Dr Ambedkar.

Prof Hegde said Mysore University also proposes to start a one-year diploma on studies on Dr Ambedkar.
