LUCKNOW: Union communication minister Ram Vilas Paswan would release a first day cover on November 16 to commemorate the martyrdom of Verangana Uda Devi in Lucknow, according to president of the Uda Devi Sansthan Ram Lakhan Pasi.

On this occasion, the communication minister will release postal stamp on Bijli Pasi, a ruler from the Pasi community.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Mr Pasi said that his sansthan would request the Uttar Pradesh government to instal real statues of Uda Devi in Lucknow and adjoining areas. The statues put up by the government at Sikandarbad did not bear any resemblance with the warrior, said Mr Pasi.

Mr Pasi said that the sansthan would urge the government to declare November 16 a holiday to commemorate the martyrdom of Uda Devi.

He said that the Pasi community would wage a fight for the restoration of Biji Pasi Quila (fort) to the Pasi community.
