Plan to build hostels for BCs in Kolar

CHINTAMANI, Dec 23 (DHNS)

Kolar district is facing a shortage of hostels for backward castes and communities and hence the government has prepared a plan for their construction, said Minister of State for Planning Suma Vasanth.

Speaking at a press meet in Kolar, she said that a plan has also been drawn up for the construction of houses for SC people and the poor.

She added that Rs 85.54 crore has been allotted under the 'Valaya Yojana` for Kolar in the year 2000-2001.

About Rs 55.86 crore has to be spent within December and as of now Rs 34.01 crore has been spent and 61 per cent of the allotted works have been carried out, she said.

District-in-charge Minister Muniyappa, speaking at the meet, said that there was severe groundwater depletion. He called for more funds to undertake works to increase the groundwater table. He also urged the government to release Rs 40 lakh to the border taluks for developmental works.
