SC/ST panel for action against 2 govt officials

Pioneer News Service/Lucknow

Taking serious exception to the actions of Principal Secretary (Law) NK Mehrotra and one IAS officer Dilip Sahai, the UP Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Commission has recommended removal of both the officers from their present responsibilities.

The commission headed by a retired IAS officer SD Bagla has made the recommendations while disposing of some of the cases filed by aggrieved government officials belonged to SC/ST.

In the first case, the recommendation was sent simultaneously to the High Court to consider the repatriation of Principal Law Secretary Mehrotra to his parent cadre of Higher Judicial Service. He is working with the state government on deputation.

Making scathing remarks on the style of functioning of Mehrotra, Bagla said, "the commission feels that he appears to have lost public faith and credit and has acted in a partial manner which suits him and his friends." His repatriation would help in restoring public confidence in the functioning of the government and saving it from undue embarrassment, he added. The commission's order was issued on Monday.

In other case, the commission has recommended to the state government to dissociate Special Secretary in the Health Department Dilip Sahai from his present post and departmental proceedings be started against him for misusing his authority.
