·         Annual Planning and Budgeting System using GIS for Calicut Corporation (ongoing Project from Feb. 2000)

A Research and Development Project for strengthening the Peoples Planning Movement of Kerala using Technology and Tools of GIS for preparation of Annual plans. Scope of Work: Involved in analysing the past trends of urban planning practice, investigation of existing annual plans and budgeting system, designing a planning cycle and approach to financial resource mobilisation using participatory planning in the fields of urban land management and development, urban infrastructure development and the potential of GIS as a technology for future participatory annual planning and budgeting.

·         Government Hospital, Kathmandu

A 200 bed general hospital for the Government of Nepal. Scope of Work: Involved design of main OPD lobby and other common areas, vehicular circulation and parking zones and preparation of working drawings.

 

·         HCL - HP Factory, Pondicherry.

A computer assemblage unit for HCL-HP. Scope of work Involved design of entry and exit points, bond room, canteen, conveniences, sewage disposal, lighting, electrical supply and preparation of working drawings.

 

·         Raman Transformer Board Factory, Mysore

A transmission board manufacturing unit near Mysore for Raman Group of Companies, Bangalore. Scope of work Involved design of foyer, Mr. Ramans’ cabin and rest room, elevation and sections, landscaping, circulation of material and movement of people, sewage disposal, lighting, electrical supply and preparation of working drawings.

 

·          Raman. Apartments Mysore.

A G+4 housing apartment in the heart of Mysore. Scope of Work Involved design of Penthouse for Mr. Raman and preparation of all working drawings.

 

·          Farm Houses, Bungalows, etc.

A number of farmhouses and bungalows within Bangalore and on the outskirts. Scope of Work included the conceptualisation, design, coordination of various services, cost estimation and preparation of detailed working drawings.

 

 

ACADEMIC PROJECTS In PLANNING (1998-2000)

 

·         Thesis: Land Management: A Technique of Financial Resource Mobilisation for Urban Development, Case Study-Calicut.(Aug99-Jan.2000)

Based on a hypothesis, “effective land management generates financial resources for urban development”. This was proven to be true with the help of two case study areas in the case study city of Calicut, Kerala. The thesis was divided in three parts, the first studied the existing state of the art techniques of land management and financial resource mobilisation. The second part dealt with the ongoing practice of land management and financial resource mobilisation in Calicut and investigated the problems associated. Also, sources of funding were studied for effective generation and utilisation of finances. Finally, techniques of land management were selected based on the study and implemented on two case study areas. Suggestions were made for future urban development and financial resource mobilisation with the help of a model.

 

·         Structure Plan: Bangalore - Mysore  Expressway Corridor, Karnataka. (Jan.99-May99)

Multi-Dimensional development of this very important infrastructure corridor was the main objective of the project. Various aspects like infrastructure, Socio- Economic and Industrial growth were considered and this was worked out on some important work-centers like Ramanagaram, Chanapattana, Mandya and Srirangapattana.

 

·         Outline Development Plan for Jhunjhunu City, Rajasthan. (Sep.98-Nov.98)

The project involved baseline study consisting of socio-economic, demographic, land use, transport/infrastructure, housing sector, natural resource inventory, and administrative/ financial set up, inter-relationships with surrounding towns and issues & potentials of city. Analysis of above data and proposals for development/growth in phased manner was envisaged for next 20 years.

·         Urban Regeneration, Case Study - Jaipur, Rajasthan.(Aug99-Dec.99)

Regeneration of Tripolia Bazaar, adjacent to Hawa Mahal and a part of the Walled City and commercial business district of Jaipur. Regeneration of Tripolia Bazaar was done wrt economic, historic, social, and to make the experience of shopping in this bazaar comfortable and convenient to both local shoppers and tourists.

 

·         Introduction to Geographical Information Systems. (Jan99-May99)

Use of GIS as a tool for communication and analysis and to show change of any given space over a period of time, and to model subsequent decision making and support systems with the help of GIS software’s, MapInfo 5.0, ARCView 3.0

·         Remote Sensing Technology and Regional Planning. (Jan99-May99)

Remote Sensing as a technology for Planning and its various methods and techniques, Interpretation and Calculation of Remote Sensed Data in the form of Black and White and Colour images.

 

 

ACADEMIC PROJECTS In ARCHITECTURE (1992-1997)

 

·         Thesis: Unicorp Computers Assemblage and Bechtel Software Development Centre, Gurgaon, Haryana.(Jan.97-May97)

A culmination of four and a half years of architecture brought about an interest in the design of industries, which was reflected in the thesis where the aim was to introduce and develop new process of assembly of computers and integration of services along side software development, and to create an environment conducive for working and increase in efficiency.

 

·         Urban Design: Redevelopment of INA Market, New Delhi.(Aug.97-Dec.97)

INA market caters to a very large area of south delhi, and with the advent of Dilli Haat its importance has increased. The proposal incorporated the proposed Metro Rail station adjacent to the site and the redevelopment of INA Market to meet the new demands of a new generation of both shoppers and shopkeepers.

 

·         Urban Design: DDA Design Competition - Community Centre, Sector 7, Rohini, New Delhi.(Jan.96-May96)

The community centre designed aimed at providing for all facilities in a conservative yet modern and technologically updated fashion and to cater to all the sections of the society under the given circumstances of a planned development on one side and a urban village on the other.

 

·         Hospitality Design: Damdama Tourist Resort , Damdama, Haryana (Jan.95-May95)

A tourist resort 8 kms from Gurgaon set amidst the Aravallis. The design aimed at providing all the comforts required to relieve the stress of the hustle and bustle busy life of any city dweller and to provide for an ambience of class and taste.

 

·         Institutional Design: Alliance Francaise de Delhi, New Delhi.(May94-Dec.94)

An attempt to explore the gifts and lessons of Indian Architecture and Technology imbibed from the modern western world. Also an attempt not to create an eye sore of a building set amidst the urban form of Steinabad.

The basics of hospital planning and the way different facilities in a hospital function differently and yet are inter-related culminated with the preparation of a manual on hospital design and space standards.

 

·         Product Design.(Jan96-May96)

Introduction to materials used for manufacture of products and their inherent properties. The advantages and disadvantages over each other, and methods of production. The basics of ergonomics and an exploration of forms culminated with the design of a product (table lamp for an executive), which tried to balance form and design and the process involved in the manufacture.

A study aimed at understanding the process of Five Year Plans and change in thrust areas with each subsequent plan, with an emphasis on the 8th and 9th Five Year Plans.

 

·         Do the Social and Behavioural Sciences have anything to teach Architects? (Architecture Auditorium, Nov.96)

Architects have been known to design buildings based upon the requirements of the client, but as a manifestation of his own visualisation. There has been very little attempt to study post construction the influence of these very building on the people. This was a reverse process to understand how people behave in given circumstances of time, space and order and to understand what architects can learn for an conscious approach to design.
